Key Terms: Economic Diversification in Oil-Exporting Arab States

Before starting research on policy and solutions within the wide scope of economic diversification, it is important to be familiar with a few key terms. This list is not exhaustive, but it is a good place to start with your research for Topic B. Middle East-North Africa (MENA): MENA encompasses countries within the Middle East and North Africa. In the scope of oil trade and economic diversification, they are very economically diverse. Therefore, when considering the issue at hand, it is important not to propose blanket solutions.   Hi all! This is Lauren, your Head Chair for BMUN LXX! Committee time is drawing near, and I am so excited to meet all of you. Before we begin, I would first like to reiterate why we chose these topics and what we hope you, as delegates, walk away with. Reconstructing the Gaza Strip The Israel-Palestine conflict is something that feels familiar, but often remains abstract to many high school students. It is not unheard of, but it often does not receive the length of time necessary in history curricula. In order to make this topic more digestible to delegates, we have narrowed it down to the Gaza Strip and the ways in which historical violence continues to breed animosity and suffering. Before starting research on policy and solutions within the wide scope of reconstruction, it is important to be familiar with a few key terms. This list is not exhaustive, but it is a good place to start with your research for Topic A. Balfour Declaration: In the wake of World War I, the British Empire took control over Palestine which was previously part of the Ottoman Empire. On November 2, 1917, the Balfour Declaration was a public pledge that the British Empire made to the Jewish people residing in Palestine, promising for the eventual establishment of a Jewish state.  The British Mandate in 1922: The British Mandate was established by the League of Nations after World War I and the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.
