A Note on the Topics

Hi all! This is Lauren, your Head Chair for BMUN LXX! Committee time is drawing near, and I am so excited to meet all of you. Before we begin, I would first like to reiterate why we chose these topics and what we hope you, as delegates, walk away with.

Reconstructing the Gaza Strip

The Israel-Palestine conflict is something that feels familiar, but often remains abstract to many high school students. It is not unheard of, but it often does not receive the length of time necessary in history curricula. In order to make this topic more digestible to delegates, we have narrowed it down to the Gaza Strip and the ways in which historical violence continues to breed animosity and suffering. While this committee will be primarily focusing on humanitarian aid, it is also very important to understand how we ended up where we are now.

Economic Diversification in Oil-Exporting Arab States

The mere length of the title "Economic Diversification in Oil-Exporting Arab States" may sound intimidating, but trust me, it's a lot of fun! This is a topic that I did while I was in high school, and I learned so much in the process! This topic will encourage you to think about how the economy intersects with other aspects of life — whether this be government structure or climate change. It requires thinking outside of the box and coming up with innovative ways to address both economic volatility and the necessity of sustainable energy. Some of the topics covered in the synopsis (i.e. the Rentier State Theory) may still seem complex now, but we're hoping that by the end of committee, you will walk away with a better understanding and a comfortability with talking about complex subjects.

As always, feel free to comment on the blog, and do not hesitate to reach us at albmunlxx@bmun.org. Looking forward to seeing you all in committee!
